Crohn"s disease is an ongoing condition that causes inflammation of the digestive tract, or the GI (gastrointestinal) tract (the gut). Crohn"s disease may also be called ileitis or enteritis. Crohn"s disease can affect any part of the gut, from the mouth all the way down to the anus. In the majority of cases the lower part of the small intestine - the ileum - is affected. Patients with Crohn"s disease can feel pain; the condition makes the intestines empty frequently, resulting in diarrhea.

New Mums At Rotherham Hospital Were Given Goody Bags This Week To Help Promote Breastfeeding Awareness Week, UK

The hospital"s maternity unit provides year-round support for all mothers, whatever their chosen method of feeding, but the maternity team is committed to increasing the support for breastfeeding. During Breastfeeding Awareness Week all mums were given a useful bag and muslin baby square, together with items from the Department of Health to support Breastfeeding Awareness Week. All breastfeeding mothers are given information before they leave hospital about the support available locally. Karen Norton, Head of Midwifery at Rotherham hospital said: "Breastfeeding gives babies the best start in life. Breastfeeding is a wonderfully natural way to bond with your child and breastfeeding can also help new mums return to their pre-pregnancy figure." This year the Breastfeeding Awareness Week theme was "Every day makes a difference to your baby" and focused on supporting women to breastfeed for as long as they want to. Mums who have experienced breastfeeding are available to support women who want to breastfeed at a number of peer support groups across Rotherham, including one run at the hospital. NHS Rotherham, Rotherham Foundation Trust and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council"s Children"s Centre are all working towards the becoming Unicef Baby Friendly by 2012. This means that breastfeeding friendly policies are developed and all staff are fully trained to provide breastfeeding support. The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust
