The Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) announced the recipients of nearly two million dollars in grants to fund 13 individual scientists pursuing innovative melanoma research proposals. This second round of MRA grants is focused on research that addresses the gap in translational science.

Leading Scientists And Scholars Urge Action On Climate Issues
In an open letter addressed to President Barack Obama and the United States Congress, twenty leading scientists and scholars assert that the currently stated objectives in limiting the climatic disruption are grossly inadequate and urge the nation"s leadership to take clear leadership towards meet the objectives of the 1992 Framework Convention on Climate Change, steps necessary to avert a "global climatic catastrophe".

American Red Cross And ArcelorMittal Launch "Creating Safer Communities" Program
ArcelorMittal and the American Red Cross are launching a new national partnership, Creating Safer Communities, designed to bring important safety training and res to people who live and work in communities where ArcelorMittal operates. ArcelorMittal, the world"s leading steel company, provided a grant of $152,500 to be distributed in multiple communities across the US. The program will provide health and safety education to more than 1,800 community members in addition to thousands of ArcelorMittal employees and their families.

Educate Deferred Donors On World Blood Donor Day, June 14th

In recognition of World Blood Donor Day on June 14th, the National Anemia Action Council (NAAC) is providing the online tutorial Anemia & Blood Donation to blood donors who have been deferred because of a low blood count. The free tutorial provides education about the possible causes of a low blood count, potential treatments, and also stresses the importance of communicating a low blood count with a doctor. Without advice, deferred donors may not know it is important to find out what may be causing a low blood count. With the right information, however, they can learn how to raise their blood counts, stay healthy, and try to donate again. In addition to the tutorial, NAAC invites visitors to fill out the Connecting Blood Donors Survey. With results from this survey, NAAC will be able to provide the educational programs desired by deferred blood donors and the healthcare professionals who work with them. Possible programs could include online discussions, chats or lectures, social networking communities, continuing education or an ask the expert service. NAAC encourages healthcare professionals to familiarize themselves with the information in the tutorial and pass it along to their patients, colleagues and to blood donors who have been deferred or may be at risk for a low blood count.
