CytRx Drug Candidate INNO-206 Results In Ovarian Tumor Shrinkage In Animal Trials
CytRx Corporation (NASDAQ: CYTR), a biopharmaceutical research and development company engaged in the development of high-value human therapeutics, announced that results demonstrating that its cancer drug candidate INNO-206 caused statistically significant tumor shrinkage in an animal model of ovarian cancer have been accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed journal Investigational New Drugs. The manuscript based on this animal trial, "INNO-206, the (6-maleimidocaproyl hydrazone derivative of doxorubicin), shows superior antitumor efficacy compared to doxorubicin in different tumor xenograft models and in an orthotopic pancreas carcinoma model," was made available ahead of journal printing in electronic format in the January 8, 2009 on-line issue of Investigational New Drugs.

Novartis Successfully Demonstrates Capabilities Of Cell-based Technology For Production Of A(H1N1) Vaccine
Novartis has successfully completed the production of the first batch of influenza A(H1N1) vaccine, weeks ahead of expectations. Cell-based manufacturing technology[1] allows vaccine production to be initiated once a pandemic virus strain is identified without the need to adapt the virus strain to grow in eggs, as with traditional vaccine technologies. This advance has cut weeks off the time required to begin vaccine production. This first batch of ten liters of wild type influenza A(H1N1) vaccine monobulk will be used for pre-clinical evaluation and testing and is also being considered for use in clinical trials. It demonstrates the value of the cell-based production approach, that is also being used by Novartis with reassortant influenza A(H1N1) seed.

Diagnostics Waiting Times & Activity Data: Month Ending March 2009

This data shows the NHS" progress in tackling the waiting times for diagnostic tests like scans. The monthly data published today gives the waiting times for 15 key diagnostic tests carried out in the NHS. This data will help the NHS in delivering the 18 week maximum wait from GP to treatment, including all diagnostic tests, by end 2008. Main findings this month - The number of patients, for whom English commissioners are responsible, waiting over 6 weeks for one of the 15 key diagnostics tests at the end of March 2009 was 2,800, a decrease of 600 (18.2%) from February 2009, and a fall of 10,100 (78.0%) from March 2008. - The number of patients, for whom English commissioners are responsible, waiting over 13 weeks for one of the 15 key diagnostics tests at the end of March 2009 was 300, a decrease of around 470 (61.2%) from February 2009, and a fall of 3,200 (91.5%) from March 2008. - Waits for audiology assessments make up the highest proportion of long waits.
