Comment On The Study 'Filaggrin Gene Defects And Risk Of Developing Allergic Sensitisation And Allergic Disorders: Systematic Review And Meta-analysis

Dr Elaine Vickers, Research Relations Manager at Asthma UK, says: "This is an important piece of research which helps to explain why the majority of children with severe eczema go on to develop asthma in later childhood, as a result of their genetic make-up. "It may help us to understand why more than a million children in the UK are affected by asthma and identify those children who are at an increased risk of developing the condition after having eczema when they were younger. "This could be a significant step forward in helping to improve the diagnosis and treatment of children with allergy-related conditions, and reducing the numbers affected." Asthma UK
